Trump Administration Withholds 2024 Election Meddling Reports
President Donald Trump is selectively declassifying intelligence files while withholding legally required reports on foreign interference in the 2024 and 2026 elections.
The administration of Donald Trump has selectively declassified intelligence files while withholding a legally required assessment of foreign meddling in the 2024 election. While the White House has released documents regarding the 2020 election to support claims of transparency, it has ignored congressional requirements to disclose the 2024 report and a separate assessment regarding threats to the 2026 midterm elections.
To manage these efforts, the administration appointed conservative journalist John Solomon as a special government employee to oversee declassification. Critics argue these actions are driven by political agendas rather than public interest. Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte praised the president's declassification efforts on social media, while the Office of the Director of National Intelligence faces accusations from Congress of violating statutes by withholding the threat reports.
In response, Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee have urged the immediate release of the documents. Representative Jason Crow introduced an amendment that would withhold funding from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence until the required reports are delivered to Congress.
