Democrats Divide Over Potential Third Trump Impeachment

Democratic leaders are divided over whether to pursue a third impeachment of Donald Trump if they secure control of the House of Representatives in the November 3 midterm elections. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that while the party is committed to an affordability agenda, Democrats must provide accountability for what he called unprecedented corruption.

Internal party disagreements persist regarding the strategy. Representative Ro Khanna argued that impeachment is necessary to establish a constitutional standard concerning foreign deals and illegal wars. In contrast, Senator Tammy Duckworth urged her colleagues to avoid impeachment proceedings and instead focus on legislative priorities and resolving tariffs.

Republicans have reacted sharply to the prospect. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan warned that a Democratic majority would weaponize government oversight to target the president, his family, and Republican officials. Amid these debates, Representative Steve Cohen has already filed 26 articles of impeachment against the president, citing charges that include undermining democracy.
