Donald Trump Blames Absence From Ballot for GOP Midterm Losses
President Donald Trump attributed Republican midterm election losses to his absence from the ballot and the economic impact of the war in Iran.
President Donald Trump claimed that Republicans lost the Tuesday midterm elections because he was not on the ballot, asserting that his presence would have secured a landslide victory. The elections resulted in a blue wave, with Democrats flipping governorships in Georgia, Texas, and Iowa, six House seats, and Senate seats in Texas, South Carolina, Ohio, and North Carolina.
Trump identified the war in Iran as a contributing factor to the losses, specifically citing the resulting rise in oil and gasoline prices as a primary political liability. Despite this, he stated he does not regret launching the conflict and maintains he did the right thing. He also blamed Fox News for the GOP losses and rejected the notion that the results were a rebuke of his presidency.
While Trump told the New York Times he is willing to accept the results and work with Democratic leaders to avoid spending his final two years in office vetoing legislation, his public signals remained mixed. Shortly after expressing a desire to cooperate, he posted an image of a hat featuring the word veto. Trump confirmed he has no plans for administration personnel changes and continues to support Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
