Donald Trump agreed to dismiss his appeal with prejudice regarding a $5 million sexual abuse and defamation verdict awarded to E. Jean Carroll.
The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit announced Tuesday that Donald Trump has agreed to dismiss his appeal with prejudice regarding a $5 million verdict awarded to E. Jean Carroll. By stipulating to the dismissal and withdrawing his motion for a stay, Trump cannot challenge this specific 2023 sexual abuse and defamation judgment again.
The funds, which grew to between $5.6 million and $5.8 million including accrued interest, were disbursed to Carroll in July. This payment followed a mandate from U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan and a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States to decline review of the case. Judge Kaplan previously noted that the defendant had been stalling the proceedings for years.
While this legal matter is resolved, Trump continues to challenge a separate $83.3 million defamation verdict awarded to Carroll in January 2024. A spokesperson for Trump's legal team described the litigation as a "Democrat-funded travesty of the Carroll Hoaxes" and "Witch Hunts."
