President Tinubu Commissions Bwari Water Network as 50th FCT Project
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned a 198-kilometre water pipeline in Bwari, marking the 50th infrastructure project completed in the Federal Capital Territory since May 2023.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the Bwari Township Water Supply Network Project on July 14, 2026, in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja. Represented by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the president announced that the 198-kilometre pipeline, constructed by China Geo-engineering Construction (CGC) Limited, connects Bwari and Ushafa to the Lower Usuma Dam. The initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda to decentralize development and expand clean water access to satellite towns, with pledges to reach Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji before the end of his tenure.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike noted that the Bwari network is the 50th project inaugurated since the president took office on May 29, 2023. He described it as the third major water intervention following the Lower Usuma Dam Phase II rehabilitation and the Karu Water Supply Network. Wike stated that his administration intends to inaugurate another 10 projects before January 2027 to ensure development extends beyond road construction.
The project, which was awarded in August 2025, reportedly created over 1,600 direct and indirect jobs. FCT Minister of State Mariya Mahmoud characterized the network as a milestone in implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda, while officials stated the system would reduce waterborne diseases by eliminating reliance on untreated boreholes.
