Trump Warns Houthis After Threat to Block Saudi Ports

Houthi militants in Yemen announced on Monday their intention to block ships from loading or unloading at Saudi ports. This action threatens to halt Saudi oil exports, potentially removing 7% of the global oil supply from the market.

Donald Trump responded on Tuesday, stating that the United States would intervene if the group obstructs shipping in the Red Sea. While Saudi Arabia has not requested military assistance, U.S. officials warn that a new conflict with the Houthis would force the military to split resources between two active fronts: the current war with Iran and a new theater near Yemen.

Such an escalation would strain already diminished munitions stockpiles and divert naval and intelligence assets currently deployed in the Middle East and the Gulf.
