Trump Blockades Strait of Hormuz to Pressure Iran
President Donald Trump implemented a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz to economically isolate Iran following a massive air campaign earlier this year.
President Donald Trump has implemented a military strategy against Iran centered on a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The strategy combines the blockade with escorts for friendly shipping to squeeze the Iranian regime economically while attempting to prevent global oil prices from spiking.
This shift toward economic attrition follows a massive U.S. air campaign on February 28 that targeted 13,000 targets through more than 30,000 combat sorties. That operation stopped Iran's nuclear program and killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top leaders.
While the air campaign disabled a significant portion of Iran's missile force, results remain mixed as drone production continues and some missile capabilities have been rebuilt. The current focus on the blockade aims to curtail regime income and avoid further large-scale bombing campaigns that could trigger intensified retaliation or cause excessive civilian hardship.
