China and Indonesia Pledge Stronger Economic Cooperation in Jakarta
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indonesian official Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan affirmed their bilateral partnership and commitment to increased Chinese investment in Indonesia.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, chairman of Indonesia's National Economic Council, in Jakarta on August 22, 2026, to strengthen bilateral economic ties. Wang Yi stated that the cooperation between the two nations serves as an example of mutually beneficial partnership among Global South countries and emphasized China's support for Indonesian industrialization.
During the meeting, Wang Yi encouraged Chinese enterprises to continue investing in Indonesia while requesting that the Indonesian government ensure a safe and stable business environment for these firms. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan responded by characterizing China as Indonesia's most trustworthy friend and partner, noting that Chinese investments have significantly improved local livelihoods and economic development.
Pandjaitan affirmed that Indonesia welcomes further Chinese investment and pledged to provide a fair and friendly business environment for foreign enterprises.
