President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed sadness following the death of Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
In a statement released by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, the president described Baba-Ahmed as an impactful leader who led the council with wisdom and a commitment to justice and peaceful coexistence. Tinubu noted a long-term relationship with the deceased, specifically citing the counsel and support Baba-Ahmed provided during the 2011 election cycle and the 2023 presidential campaign.
Tinubu extended his condolences to the leadership of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, the family of the deceased, the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, and the government and people of Kaduna State.
