DWP Shifts August Benefit Payments Due to Bank Holidays

The Department for Work and Pensions announced revised payment dates for millions of benefit claimants in August 2026 to account for summer bank holidays. For residents of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, payments normally scheduled for Monday, August 31, will instead be issued on Friday, August 28. This adjustment affects recipients of the state pension, Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Child Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, and Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

Payment schedules in Scotland differ due to the bank holiday on Monday, August 3. While some reports indicate affected payments will be made on Friday, July 31, the agency clarified that Bacs remains open for Scottish-only holidays, meaning payments for those dates will process normally. Eligible single Pension Credit claimants can receive up to £952 every four weeks, with funds deposited directly into bank, building society, or credit union accounts without requiring action from claimants.

These logistical updates coincide with broader policy discussions from Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham. He suggested the government may tighten conditions for welfare support to reduce the national welfare bill and encourage claimants to seek employment.
