Republicans Lead Key Minnesota Statewide and Legislative Races

Republicans lead in Minnesota's U.S. Senate and governor races and secured multiple legislative victories across Minnesota, North Dakota, New York, and Wisconsin.

Republicans secured significant leads and victories across several states during the November 3, 2026, midterm elections. In Minnesota, Republican Michele Tafoya currently leads Democrat Peggy Flanagan for the U.S. Senate, while Republican Lisa Demuth leads Democrat Amy Klobuchar in the race for governor. Both statewide seats became open after Senator Tina Smith and Governor Tim Walz declined to seek re-election. Early results also show Republicans leading in three of eight U.S. House seats in the state.

Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune attributed the GOP's competitiveness in the historically blue Senate seat to voter frustration with fraud. Tafoya echoed this sentiment, stating that voters are tired of career politicians and fraud, and desire something fresh.

In legislative races, Republicans saw success in Minnesota's District 1, where Senate leader Marc Johnson and Representatives John Burkel and Steve Gander retained their seats. These victors emphasized fraud prevention, property tax relief, and rural infrastructure. Gander pledged continued cooperation with the federal judicial system to prosecute those who stole government funds.

Beyond Minnesota, Republicans won multiple seats in North Dakota's Minot area, including Senate seats held by Bob Paulson and Jay Fisher. In New York's St. Lawrence County, GOP incumbents Mark Walczyk and Dan Stec retained their State Senate seats. Republicans also swept several Northwoods districts in Wisconsin, including State Senate wins for Romaine Quinn and Erik Severson.
