Xi Jinping Visits Yudu to Commemorate Long March
President Xi Jinping visited Yudu County to honor the Long March and review the progress of the government's targeted poverty alleviation campaign.
President Xi Jinping visited Yudu County in Jiangxi Province to commemorate the start of the Long March, the 12,500-kilometer military maneuver that began in October 1934 when approximately 86,000 Red Army soldiers crossed the Yudu River. During the visit, Xi paid tribute to revolutionary forefathers and linked the historical struggle for liberation to a new journey toward building a modern socialist country.
The visit served as a review of the targeted poverty alleviation campaign, which the government claims lifted nearly 100 million rural residents out of poverty by 2021. Xi inspected local living conditions and discussed income and education with residents to ensure former revolutionary base areas were meeting poverty-reduction targets.
Regional development has expanded through high-speed rail links to Shenzhen and the growth of electronics, information technology, and advanced materials industries. Additionally, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University established a smart clothing and wearables research facility in neighboring Xingguo County.
