Donald Trump claimed during a Tunnel to Towers Foundation event that firefighters carried him to safety following the September 11 attacks due to fears of a building collapse. He further asserted that he led a crew of workers to Lower Manhattan shortly after the attacks to assist in recovery efforts.

These claims were immediately challenged by fact-checkers and former officials. CNN reported that Trump was miles away from the World Trade Center on September 11 and noted a lack of evidence for the rescue story. A former New York City Fire Department battalion chief stated he had no knowledge of Trump being at the site or sending a crew of workers.

Trump defended his remarks on Truth Social, stating his account was accurate. He cited his former head of security, Matthew Calamari, as confirmation of the trip to Lower Manhattan.
