Trump Administration Conducts 980,000 Deportations in 18 Months
The Department of Homeland Security deported approximately 980,000 people during the first 18 months of Donald Trump's second term, according to a Migration Policy Institute report.
The Department of Homeland Security conducted approximately 980,000 deportations between January 20, 2025, and July 31, 2026, according to a report by the Migration Policy Institute. While this pace exceeds that of the previous administration, it falls short of the White House campaign goal of one million deportations per year.
The report indicates that only 20% of those deported had criminal convictions, contradicting administration claims of targeting the most dangerous individuals. While 69% of removals occurred at the border, interior arrests increased from a monthly average of 8,000 in the first quarter to 19,000 between May and July 2026. Additionally, the United States Department of State revoked over 300,000 visas during this period citing fraud, criminal activity, or national security threats.
The findings were compiled using public data after the Department of Homeland Security stopped releasing detailed monthly enforcement statistics in January 2025. Border czar Tom Homan acknowledged that roughly 40% of ICE arrests involve individuals with no criminal history.
