Singapore Airlines Cancels Flights as Iran Attacks US Base

Singapore Airlines and Scoot suspended Middle East flights after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched missile and drone attacks against US forces in Kuwait.

Military hostilities between the United States and Iran resumed in early July, leading to widespread aviation disruptions and direct military engagements. On July 16, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a combined missile and drone attack targeting US troops and air defense systems at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. The Kuwait Ministry of Defence reported the interception of 21 drones and four cruise missiles, resulting in flight delays at Kuwait International Airport.

These events follow a series of U.S. military strikes against Iran that began July 8, after President Donald Trump declared a June 17 interim agreement "over." The U.S. operations targeted Iran's southern coast and cities, while Tehran responded by closing the Strait of Hormuz and striking merchant ships.

In response to the instability, Singapore Airlines extended its flight cancellations between Singapore and Dubai until October 24. Its budget subsidiary, Scoot, cancelled flights to Jeddah until July 27. Other international carriers have also adjusted operations; Air France extended Beirut flight cancellations until August 2, and Turkish Airlines continues to suspend all flights to Iran.
