Donald Trump Approval Drops as He Proposes Citizen Dividend
President Donald Trump faces declining approval ratings in national and Missouri polls, prompting a proposal for a $5,000 citizen dividend to boost midterm support.
Recent polling indicates a significant decline in popularity for Donald Trump, with a national survey by The Economist and YouGov placing his approval rating at 37% and disapproval at 61%.
In Missouri, a St. Louis University/YouGov poll shows Trump has reached a net negative approval rating for the first time in the survey's history. His approval in the state fell to approximately 47%, a drop of 19 percentage points since he took office in early 2025. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe also recorded his first negative rating, with approval falling to 39%.
Poll director Steve Rogers attributed these declines to inflation, the war in Iran, and what he described as "MAGA fatigue." These trends appear to be creating headwinds for other Republicans, evidenced by a narrow two-point lead for incumbent State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick over Democratic challenger Quentin Wilson.
In response to the sagging popularity, Trump appeared at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas. During the event, he proposed a $5,000 dividend for every adult U.S. citizen contingent on Republicans winning both the House and Senate in the November elections.
