Peter Obi Vows to End Campaign Over Funding Allegations

Presidential candidate Peter Obi pledged to terminate his 2027 political campaign if evidence emerges that he accepted funds from Nigerians in the diaspora. Speaking during a visit to the United States, Obi dismissed allegations that his trip was intended for campaign fundraising, asserting that he is using personal resources to cover his global travel and political objectives.

While in Washington, DC, Obi detailed his history of reducing governance costs during his tenure as governor of Anambra State. He claimed he rejected inflated budgets, completing an office refurbishment for N48 million instead of the budgeted N298 million and spending N81 million on his house rather than the allocated N486 million. He further stated he avoided large entourages, leaving 16 percent of his travel allowance unused.

Simultaneously, Obi's media office issued a statement criticizing the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The team cited the removal of the petrol subsidy and the depreciation of the naira as primary drivers of inflation and rising costs for food, transportation, and medicine. The statement further listed security lapses and a lack of public trust as key failures of the current government.
