Seyi Makinde Accuses President Tinubu of Ignoring Ministerial Nomination
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde claims President Bola Tinubu rejected his ministerial nominee in favor of Adebayo Adelabu and failed to form a government of national unity.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde stated that President Bola Tinubu ignored his recommendation for a ministerial appointment, choosing Adebayo Adelabu instead. Speaking on Fresh FM in Ibadan, Makinde revealed he had nominated Bimbo Adekanmbi due to his financial management experience, but Tinubu insisted on Adelabu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Makinde refused to present Adelabu as his own choice, insisting the appointment be recognized as the president's decision. He further alleged that the administration failed to honor a political understanding to form a government of national unity following the 2023 election, arguing that appointments were influenced by political connections and regional favoritism toward the South-west.
A member of the G5 governors who opposed the PDP's 2023 candidate, Makinde is now the presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement for the 2027 election. During an APM North-east Town Hall Meeting in Yola, he pledged to establish a four-year transitional Government of National Unity if elected.
