Iran and Oman Discuss Strait of Hormuz Shipping Security

The Government of Iran and the Government of Oman conducted high-level diplomatic meetings in Tehran on July 25 and 26, 2026. The discussions, held at the deputy foreign ministers' level, focused on managing safe shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and establishing joint operational mechanisms while respecting the sovereign rights of both coastal states.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the talks as "fruitful" and noted that some progress was achieved, though he clarified that the current maritime traffic situation remains unchanged. In a separate coordination effort, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi held a telephone conversation to discuss regional security and cooperation to prevent escalation in West Asia.
