White House Defends AI Bowling Video Mocking Iranian Officials
The White House defended an AI-generated video comparing airstrikes in Iran to a bowling strike despite widespread condemnation for trivializing the conflict.
The White House faced widespread condemnation on March 12, 2026, after posting an AI-generated video to X that compared U.S. airstrikes in Iran to a tenpin bowling strike. The 34-second clip features bowling legend Pete Weber hitting a strike, followed by an animation of American-flagged bowling balls knocking over pins representing Iranian officials, before transitioning into a highlight reel of actual military bombings.
Critics accused the administration of trivializing the war and the loss of life. The video follows a February 28 campaign of strikes by the U.S. and Israel that killed former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and approximately 1,300 civilians, while also resulting in the deaths of seven U.S. service members and 140 injuries.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly defended the content, asserting that the military is surpassing its goals under Operation Epic Fury. Kelly stated that the administration will continue to showcase the destruction of Iranian ballistic missiles, production facilities, and nuclear ambitions in real time, rejecting calls to apologize for highlighting military success.
