Russia and Ukraine Exchange Massive Drone and Missile Strikes

Russian and Ukrainian forces launched reciprocal strikes on military infrastructure, logistics hubs, and civilian targets, including a passenger train and oil refinery.

Russian and Ukrainian forces conducted a series of reciprocal strikes on military infrastructure and logistics hubs between August 22 and 23, 2026. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported using Iskander missiles to destroy 40 long-range UAV launchers near Borispol and striking fuel tanks and a cargo ship in the port of Chernomorsk to sever supply lines.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces targeted Russian radar stations in Yevpatoria, drone facilities in Chornomorske, and logistics depots in Dzhankoi and the Belgorod region. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the destruction of a Su-24M aircraft at the Saky airfield. Ukrainian operations also hit economic targets, including the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery and an Ozon fulfillment center in the Samara region.

Civilian infrastructure was also impacted as a Russian drone struck a passenger train traveling from Zhytomyr to Odessa, causing the locomotive to catch fire. While no one among the 593 passengers was injured, military governor Oleh Kiper accused Russia of deliberately targeting the train. Further drone strikes in Kharkiv injured seven people, while Ukrainian attacks in the Belgorod region left one person dead and six injured. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 328 Ukrainian drones, while Ukrainian air defense recorded 127 Russian drone attacks.
