Donald Trump Shares Fabricated Denzel Washington Endorsement

Donald Trump shared a fabricated endorsement from actor Denzel Washington on Truth Social on October 12, 2026. The post featured a screenshot from the X account Red Eagle Updates, which claimed Washington described Trump as the bravest and smartest person he had ever met.

Fact-checkers at Snopes had debunked the quote two days before the post, noting that the same text had been falsely attributed to Matthew McConaughey and Mick Jagger in the past. Federal Election Commission records further contradict the claim, showing that Washington has historically donated to Democratic candidates, including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

This incident follows a pattern of the president sharing false endorsements. Previous examples include debunked claims regarding JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon and the use of AI-generated images to suggest support from Taylor Swift.
