Pakistan Warns India Blocking Water Flow Is Act of War
The Government of Pakistan warned India that blocking essential water resources would be treated as an act of war under the UN Charter.
The Government of Pakistan warned India that any deliberate attempt to block water flows essential to its survival would be treated as an act of war under Article 51 of the UN Charter. This escalation follows claims by Indian Water Minister C.R. Patil that New Delhi is working to ensure not a single drop of water flows into Pakistan, acting under directives from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, stated that such actions would violate international obligations and the Indus Waters Treaty, potentially endangering the lives of 250 million people. He characterized the potential move as a deeply irresponsible attempt to use water as a political tool or weapon.
