Alyeska Pipeline Seeks Early 30-Year Federal Authorization Renewal

The Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., representing owners Hilcorp Energy Co., ConocoPhillips, and ExxonMobil Holdings Corp., has applied to renew federal land authorizations for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System more than seven years before its 2034 expiration. The company is seeking to secure an additional 30 years of operation under the current administration of President Donald Trump to avoid potential restrictions under future leadership.

The United States Department of the Interior has initiated a formal review of the application, with the Bureau of Land Management conducting an environmental analysis and opening a public comment period. While environmental groups have petitioned for the pipeline's decommissioning to combat climate change, the Trump administration intends to streamline permitting to increase resource extraction from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the National Petroleum Reserve.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that the president aims to double the flow of crude through the 800-mile conduit. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum described the pipeline as an underutilized asset that will help strengthen American energy dominance.
