BBC Seeks Court Order to Force Trump Deposition
The BBC asked a Florida federal judge to compel Donald Trump to sit for a deposition in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the broadcaster.
The British Broadcasting Corporation has asked a federal judge in Florida to compel Donald Trump to sit for a deposition in a $10 billion defamation lawsuit the president filed against the network. The broadcaster alleges that Trump's legal team canceled a scheduled October 16 deposition, citing matters of national importance, and proposed rescheduling for January 2027, which would occur after the discovery deadline.
Donald Trump filed the suit in December 2025, claiming the BBC violated Florida’s Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act by editing a Panorama documentary about his comments during the January 6, 2021, rally. The network argues that Trump accepted the obligations of civil litigation when he chose to file the lawsuit and notes that it has already provided seven witnesses for deposition.
Magistrate judge Enjoliqué Aytch Lett has scheduled a discovery hearing for October 22 to resolve the dispute over the deposition timing.
