Marco Rubio Announces Blockade of Iranian Oil Exports

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the United States has effectively blocked all Iranian oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz using sanctions and military operations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States has effectively blocked Iranian oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz. In a State Department interview, Rubio stated that while other nations continue to move 13 to 14 million barrels of oil daily through the waterway, Iran is the only country unable to move a single barrel.

Rubio attributed the blockade to a combination of economic sanctions and military operations that he claims weakened Iranian naval forces, air defenses, and missile and drone facilities. He defended these measures as necessary to restrict funding for Hamas and Hizballah and to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.

To maintain the flow of global trade, the U.S. military is currently escorting commercial vessels to protect them from Iranian attacks. The claims regarding the total effectiveness of the blockade and the extent of Iran's military losses have not been independently verified.
