President Bola Tinubu Seeks State Police to Combat Insecurity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called for constitutional amendments to create state police after accepting the APC presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called for the creation of state police as a matter of national emergency during an acceptance speech in Abuja on Sunday. The address followed his emergence as the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Tinubu acknowledged that security challenges persist in several regions despite government investments in intelligence, surveillance, and advanced security tools. He specifically cited recent terrorist attacks and the abduction of students and teachers in Borno, Kwara, and Oyo states. In response, he urged the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to permit the establishment of state-level policing to better address these threats.
Beyond security, the president addressed the economic hardships facing Nigerians, noting that many citizens continue to struggle with rising prices and shifting economic conditions. He pledged to maintain economic reforms and infrastructure development if re-elected in 2027, asserting that his administration is leading with a true understanding of the national situation.
