Iran Strikes US Bases as Donald Trump Ends Ceasefire

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a series of massive missile and drone strikes against United States military installations across the Middle East, prompting the US to evacuate Al Udeid air base in Qatar and Al Dhafra air base in the United Arab Emirates. The escalation followed the collapse of a June 18 Pakistan-brokered memorandum and a subsequent decision by Donald Trump to declare the ceasefire no longer in effect. The US had resumed strikes against Iranian civilian infrastructure starting July 8 to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Under Operation Nasr-2 and Operation Victory 2, the IRGC targeted bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq. The IRGC claims to have destroyed 11 US aircraft, including an F-15 fighter and a C-17 transport, along with 17 drones. Specific targets included ammunition hangars at Camp Buehring and Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, a US Fifth Fleet command center in Bahrain, and an Amazon AI data processing center.

Casualty reports diverge significantly. The Pentagon confirmed 18 American deaths since February and nearly 100 injuries in the last two weeks, while the IRGC claims more than 200 US service members were killed. Iranian strikes reportedly killed 55 people and injured 645 during US operations against civilian infrastructure. Brigadier General Mohsen Mohebi warned that the United Kingdom and other allies supporting US operations could become "legitimate targets."
