Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz and Warns of Infrastructure Attacks

Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz and warned the United States it will target data centers and undersea cables if military aggression continues.

The Government of Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz and warned the United States and its allies that it will expand the geographical scope of retaliatory strikes. Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, stated that Iran has not yet deployed all its military capabilities and is prepared for a prolonged conflict. He warned that future targets could include U.S.-linked data centers, artificial intelligence facilities, and undersea cables if Iranian officials are assassinated or civilians killed.

Tehran attributed the current escalation to the failure of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, claiming the U.S. failed to meet political and economic commitments after Iran had previously reopened the waterway. Iran now refuses to reopen the Strait or return to negotiations until the United States fulfills seven new conditions. Rezaei asserted that the conflict has shifted regional dynamics, claiming Persian Gulf states now doubt the ability of the U.S. military to defend its own bases.

These warnings follow reports of a planned U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign and orders from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to overthrow the Iranian regime. Iranian officials also cited remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Athens as justification for war. Mehdi Mohammadi, an adviser to the Iranian Parliament Speaker, characterized the situation as an existential threat, stating that Iran's current strategy is one of zero red lines.
