Biodun Oyebanji Sworn In for Second Ekiti Term
Governor Biodun Oyebanji began a second four-year term in Ekiti State, pledging to prioritize technology and artificial intelligence to drive economic growth.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji was inaugurated for a second four-year term on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti. He is the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win back-to-back re-elections following his victory in the June 20 governorship election. Chief Judge Adekanye Ogunmoye administered the oaths of office and allegiance to Oyebanji and Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye.
In his inaugural address, Oyebanji pledged to consolidate first-term achievements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure. He introduced new strategic focuses on artificial intelligence, technology, and the Ekiti Knowledge Zone to better link education with enterprise. He also urged citizens to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the ceremony and expressed confidence that the second term would surpass the first in political delivery. Other high-ranking attendees included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda. To secure the event, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps deployed heavy personnel across the Ado-Ekiti metropolis, conducting vehicle checks and manning strategic locations.
