IAEA Evaluates Transfer of Iran's Enriched Uranium Stockpiles

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is evaluating the technical viability of removing approximately 440 kilograms of 60 percent enriched uranium from Iran. Donald Trump has demanded that the material be transferred to the United States for destruction or destroyed in place in coordination with Tehran.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi described the operation as difficult and technically complex due to the material's gaseous form and high contamination risk, though he noted the agency is working to make the process viable. Kazakhstan has offered to store the uranium under IAEA supervision.

While some reports indicate Iran has agreed in principle to relinquish the stockpile to ease tensions, Iranian officials continue to defend their right to peaceful nuclear energy. Additionally, the state-run newspaper Ettela'at warned that U.S. demands to remove the material could be a prelude to a nuclear attack intended to subjugate the country, citing historical parallels to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
