Ghana Coordinates With US After Teen Shot in Bronx

The Government of Ghana is providing diplomatic support to the family of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, who was shot and killed in the Bronx.

The Government of Ghana is coordinating with United States authorities following the death of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager shot in the abdomen on October 29, 2026. Frimpong was walking to school in the Claremont neighborhood of the Bronx when the attack occurred; he was later pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs James Gyakye Quayson met with the victim's mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, in Accra to offer condolences and confirm that the government is engaging American law enforcement and municipal officials. The New York City Police Department is currently searching for three suspects, aged between 16 and 18, though no arrests have been made.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa recently commended the U.S. Embassy in Accra for processing visas for the victim's mother and cousin within one day. Ablakwa attributed the expedited process to interventions by U.S. President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The Ghanaian government has pledged to pursue justice for the family and continues to maintain communication with U.S. officials regarding the investigation.
