Trump Hosts White House 9/11 Event as Vance Heads to New York

President Donald Trump will host a remembrance event on September 8 at the White House to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The ceremony will feature the unveiling of a 16,900-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center's South Tower, provided by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation as part of its Steel Across America tour. Trump is also scheduled to attend a memorial service at the Pentagon.

Vice President JD Vance will represent the administration at the Ground Zero memorial service in New York City. During a press briefing, Vance joked about his anticipation of having intense intellectual conversations with former presidents in attendance, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.

The administration's split attendance follows reports that Trump was denied a request to speak at the New York ceremony, which has barred political speeches since 2012. Trump refuted these claims on Truth Social, describing the New York event as a solemn ceremony where no one ever speaks. White House Assistant Press Secretary Olivia Wales stated that Trump will use the White House event to pay tribute to American heroes and the spirit of the American people.
