Nigeria Democratic Congress Condemns APC Luxury SUV Distribution
The Nigeria Democratic Congress accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of wasteful spending after youth leaders received luxury 2026 Toyota Prado SUVs.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for distributing luxury 2026 Toyota Prado SUVs to selected youth leaders. The controversy began when APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel shared a video of the fleet, stating the vehicles were intended to aid mobilization for the 2027 general elections. While the video was later deleted, the NDC estimated that seven of the vehicles cost approximately ₦1.015 billion.
Professor Pat Utomi, a chieftain of the NDC, argued that the expenditure is unjustifiable given the low salaries paid to Nigerian soldiers and previous government claims that the national treasury was empty. Utomi suggested the funds would have been better spent on healthcare and world-class ambulances. The NDC further accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of funding lavish lifestyles for politicians while citizens face severe economic hardship.
Dayo Israel defended the distribution as a necessary tool for grassroots mobilization and thanked First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her support of the party structure. In response to the spending, the NDC urged Nigerians to vote the ruling party out of power in 2027, promoting their presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as a leader committed to reducing the cost of governance.
