Tinubu to Present 2027 Federal Budget by December
President Bola Tinubu will present the 2027 federal budget to the National Assembly before the end of December 2026 to allow for legislative scrutiny.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will present the 2027 federal budget to the National Assembly before the end of December 2026. Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning Doris Anite-Uzoka announced the timeline following a Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja, stating the goal is to provide legislators sufficient time to scrutinize expenditure priorities and revenue projections before the new fiscal year.
To prevent the funding of fictitious agencies, the budget process now requires ministries, departments, and agencies to submit establishment Acts alongside personnel cost proposals. Agencies not registered on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System or the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System are barred from receiving personnel cost provisions.
During the same council meeting, the government approved the National Nutrition Bill 2026 and a revised national policy on food and nutrition to combat childhood stunting. Minister of Works David Umahi also announced the approval of N631.3 billion for nine road infrastructure projects, including reconstructions in Kogi, Ekiti, and the Sokoto-Illela road. Additionally, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole detailed preparations for the Creative Africa Nexus Weekend in Lagos, scheduled for November 5 to 8, to attract investment into the creative economy.
