Amit Shah Challenges Rahul Gandhi to Debate Electoral Revisions

Union Home Minister Amit Shah challenged Rahul Gandhi to a parliamentary debate over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls amid widespread opposition protests.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to debate the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls within Parliament. Speaking at a rally in Karnal, Shah offered to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the exercise if formally requested, provided the discussion remains responsible and logical.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is defending the SIR through its Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy campaign, asserting that the process is a periodic necessity to remove duplicate and deceased voters. However, the INDIA bloc and the Cockroach Janta Party have launched protests across India, including a major demonstration in Bengaluru, demanding the scrapping of the SIR and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Opposition leaders allege the exercise is unconstitutional and has resulted in the mass deletion of legitimate voters. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah specifically claimed that approximately 99 lakh voters were removed from the rolls in Karnataka. The political tension has expanded beyond electoral rolls, as Rahul Gandhi issued a separate challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a face-to-face debate concerning national security and foreign influence.
