Democrats Hold Significant Lead in Midterm Election Polling

Recent polling indicates a significant advantage for Democrats heading into the midterm elections, challenging Republican efforts to maintain congressional majorities. A survey by Angus Reid Global shows Democrats with a 16-percentage-point lead on the generic ballot, while a YouGov/The Economist poll reports a 15-point lead among likely voters.

In Ohio, Democratic candidates lead in both high-profile races. Marist University polling places Senate nominee Sherrod Brown eight points ahead of Republican Senator Jon Husted. In the gubernatorial race, Democratic candidate Amy Acton leads Republican Vivek Ramaswamy by six points in the Marist poll and nine points in a Suffolk University/USA Today survey.

Republican strategists attribute the polling decline to the low approval ratings of President Donald Trump. Some party consultants warn that the Republican Party is now on the defensive across the national map.
