Donald Trump Seeks New Summit With Kim Jong Un
President Donald Trump appeared with Dennis Rodman in Texas while seeking a new meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to maintain regional stability.
Donald Trump appeared with former NBA player Dennis Rodman at a Peterbilt Motors facility in Texas on October 1. During the appearance, the president sought a new meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, claiming that his presidency maintains stability with Pyongyang and citing a good relationship with the country.
These efforts follow August overtures and a directive from Trump to the United States Department of Defense to reduce military exercises with South Korea. While Trump described recent communications with Kim as a very positive development, the government of North Korea denied direct contact and characterized U.S. policies as hostile.
Dennis Rodman has previously served as a conduit between the two leaders, though his visits to North Korea have faced criticism for legitimizing the regime.
