Political commentator Tucker Carlson has publicly broken with President Donald Trump, calling for his removal from office via the 25th Amendment. In interviews with NPR, Carlson characterized the administration's decision to initiate a regime-change war in Iran as the most destructive decision by any U.S. president in history. He argued that Trump's Cabinet secretaries should have acted immediately after the president threatened the offensive use of nuclear weapons, which Carlson described as the destruction of humanity.

Carlson alleged that Trump was pressured into the conflict by Israeli interests seeking regional hegemony and the removal of U.S. bases from the Middle East. He claimed that during a private Oval Office meeting days before the conflict began, Trump displayed nihilism toward the risks of war, reportedly stating that the dangers did not matter because "in the end, we all die anyway." This contradicts previous New York Times reporting that Trump had tried to reassure Carlson the situation would be "OK."

These accusations follow a series of escalations, including a United Nations address where Trump threatened to "annihilate" the Islamic Republic of Iran. Carlson also cited threats from April regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, during which Trump warned that "a whole civilization will die tonight." The White House declined to address the specific allegations, instead referring to a social media post in which Trump called Carlson and other critics "stupid people."
