Narendra Modi Announces Elimination of Naxalism in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India has eliminated Naxalism across all districts as of March 2026 through security and development initiatives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on October 31, 2026, that India has eliminated Naxalism, reporting that no district in the country remained affected by Left-wing extremism as of March 2026. Speaking at a Rashtriya Ekta Diwas gathering in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, to mark the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Modi stated that the movement's backbone has been broken.

Modi highlighted a significant decline in the reach of the insurgency, noting that the number of affected districts dropped from 126 in 2015 to zero by early 2026. He attributed this outcome to a combination of security operations and a development-led strategy that expanded healthcare, mobile connectivity, and road infrastructure in previously violent regions.

During the event, the Prime Minister paid tribute to security personnel killed in the line of duty and welcomed families from former Naxal-affected areas to the celebrations.
