Ashwini Vaishnaw Challenges Congress to Parliamentary Debate in Jaipur

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw challenged the Congress party to debate electoral rolls and democracy within Parliament during a BJP campaign event in Jaipur.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw accused the Indian National Congress of undermining democracy and the Constitution during a series of events in Jaipur on November 5, 2026. Speaking at the Bharatiya Janata Party's 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' (Save Democracy, Drive Away Anarchy) rally and padyatra, Vaishnaw challenged Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi to move political discourse from social media to the halls of Parliament.

Vaishnaw specifically challenged the Congress party to a parliamentary debate regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating the government would convene a special session if formally requested. He defended the SIR as a standard constitutional procedure used since 1947 and criticized the opposition's current stance against Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), noting that Congress-led governments originally introduced the technology.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma joined the criticism, claiming the Congress party levels unfounded accusations against the Election Commission, the Enforcement Directorate, and the Central Bureau of Investigation. During the events, Vaishnaw also credited Union Home Minister Amit Shah with dismantling Naxalism and reaffirmed a national commitment to eradicating the drug menace, specifically mentioning Punjab. Additionally, Vaishnaw defended the Agniveer military service scheme, noting that a successful four-year evaluation led to a government-approved two-year service extension for personnel.
