Narendra Modi Marks 25 Years in Public Governance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated 25 years as a government head with nationwide events and a public address in Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked 25 years as the head of an elected government on October 7, 2026. His tenure in public governance began with his appointment as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, followed by his transition to Prime Minister of India in 2014. During a public address in Delhi, Modi stated that his tenure is the result of the "blessings of the people" and reaffirmed the goal of transforming India into a developed, self-reliant nation by 2047.
Nationwide celebrations included the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' campaign, which ran from September 17 to October 7. In Guwahati, the Bharatiya Janata Party organized the 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha' and opened the 'NaMo @25' exhibition. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Modi's leadership, noting that the state has transformed from a gateway to the Northeast into a gateway to Southeast Asia, citing projects like the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor and a semiconductor facility at Jagiroad.
Modi's governance over the last quarter-century has focused on scaling basic needs through initiatives such as Jan Dhan, Ujjwala, Swachh Bharat, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ayushman Bharat. The administration also prioritized digital public infrastructure, including digital payments and Direct Benefit Transfers, alongside investments in manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and transportation infrastructure.
