Democrats Prepare Impeachments and Defense Cuts After Midterm Victory
Democratic lawmakers plan to target Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth with impeachment and block conservative judicial nominees following a decisive midterm election victory.
A newly Democratic-led Congress is preparing to challenge the administration of Donald Trump following a significant victory in the midterm elections. Senator Ted Cruz warned that the shift in power will trigger an all-out partisan war, predicting that the House of Representatives will pursue multiple impeachment proceedings against the president and target Cabinet members.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has emerged as a primary target for impeachment during the lame-duck session. Hegseth faces allegations regarding war crimes in Venezuela and the illegal launch of a war in Iran. While President Trump has defended Hegseth, stating he is "doing a very good job," Democratic lawmakers are also considering investigations into improper contract awards to political allies including Elon Musk and Palmer Luckey.
The legislative shift threatens the funding of high-cost military initiatives such as the Golden Fleet, Golden Dome, and the Autonomous Warfare Command. Additionally, Democrats may seek to roll back policies concerning women in combat, the naming of Army bases, and transgender troops. Beyond defense, Governor Ron DeSantis and Senator Cruz expressed concerns that Democrats will block judicial nominees, potentially leaving Supreme Court vacancies open for two years to prevent the confirmation of conservative successors to Justices Clarence Thomas or Samuel Alito.
