Nyesom Wike Defends President Tinubu's Economic Reforms in Abuja

Minister Nyesom Wike declared President Bola Tinubu the only credible leader capable of resolving Nigeria's long-standing economic challenges during a media briefing in Abuja.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike declared on Tuesday in Abuja that President Bola Tinubu is the only credible leadership option capable of fixing Nigeria's long-standing economic challenges. During a monthly media briefing, Wike defended the administration's economic reforms, specifically the removal of the petrol subsidy.

Wike characterized the subsidy removal as the boldest decision by any Nigerian president in decades. He described the previous fuel subsidy regime as a "cancer" and a "scam," asserting that Tinubu demonstrated the political will to take necessary responsibilities that previous leaders avoided.

While acknowledging that these reforms caused temporary hardship, Wike argued they ended the reliance of state governments on bank loans for salaries and increased funding for infrastructure and pensions. He maintained that the president showed the courage to make decisions others refused to take to address problems that had accumulated for over 15 years.
