Narendra Modi Launches University Outreach to Engage Gen Z
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the One Day, One University program and issued social media report cards to ministers to improve government engagement with youth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the One Day, One University initiative during a Union Cabinet meeting to strengthen government engagement with Generation Z. Under the program, one Union Minister will visit a university daily to discuss education, curriculum, and employment schemes while listening to student concerns. Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya are coordinating the effort across approximately 1,300 universities nationwide.
This outreach follows widespread student protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations regarding NEET paper leaks, which led to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on July 25. The initiative aligns with youth-centric goals announced by Modi during his Independence Day address, including free online coaching and AI skilling.
During the same Cabinet meeting, Modi distributed social media report cards to Union ministers to evaluate their digital outreach. The rankings, based on Instagram, X, and Facebook data from May 1 to August 15, 2026, measured total likes and average engagement per post. Modi ranked first in the metrics, followed by Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath, while the data also included rankings for opposition leaders such as Rahul Gandhi.
