Donald Trump Fires Press Secretary Katie Zacharia After Five Days

President Donald Trump dismissed White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia following a brief, widely criticized tenure and a failed first press conference.

President Donald Trump fired White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia on October 23, ending her tenure after only five days. The dismissal followed a disastrous first press conference on October 13 that lasted roughly 15 minutes and concluded after only three questions. Media reports described Zacharia as nervous and unprepared, with some allegations that she falsely claimed to be a lawyer despite never passing the bar exam.

During a rally in Florida, Trump defended Zacharia, calling her "perfect" and "beautiful." He attributed her performance to the media "screaming at her," which he claimed caused her to "freak out."

Following her removal, Zacharia posted on social media describing Trump as a "kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and hardworking man." Former Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the job was not a fit for Zacharia and noted that the president is continuing to look over options for a replacement.
