Atiku Abubakar Urges Tinubu to Cut Fuel Taxes
Atiku Abubakar called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reduce fuel taxes and emulate Germany's strategy to lower transportation and food costs for Nigerians.
Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress Atiku Abubakar urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reduce gasoline and diesel taxes to alleviate economic hardship across Nigeria. Atiku proposed that the Nigerian government emulate a recent strategy used in Germany to lower pump prices, which he argued would subsequently reduce the cost of food and transportation for citizens.
Atiku criticized the Tinubu administration for failing to protect the population from rising living costs and disputed presidential claims regarding the timely payment of pensions and salaries. He stated that the hardship follows Nigerians from the filling station to the market and into their homes.
As a specific alternative, Atiku proposed a targeted support system for fuel refined domestically. He suggested this scheme be funded by reducing government waste and would specifically exclude imported fuel. According to Atiku, this approach would simultaneously support local employment and production while ensuring lower costs for consumers.
