Kyrgyzstan Names China as Top Foreign Policy Priority

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Erlist Akunbekov identified cooperation with China as a primary foreign policy priority for Kyrgyzstan. Speaking on September 15, 2026, at a reception in Bishkek hosted by the Chinese Embassy to mark the 77th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, Akunbekov cited China's status as a major trade and investment partner.

Akunbekov noted that a recent state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping resulted in the signing of a treaty on permanent good-neighborliness, friendship, and cooperation. This diplomatic engagement included the signing of more than 30 additional documents covering educational, cultural, and economic sectors.

Chinese Ambassador Liu Jiangping stated that China is pursuing modernization through the Belt and Road Initiative and its 15th Five-Year Plan. Liu pledged that China would maintain the consensus established between the two heads of state to develop a shared future.
