NORAD Intercepts Aircraft in Restricted Bedminster Airspace

North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) F-16 fighter jets intercepted two general aviation aircraft on August 9 after they entered restricted airspace over Bedminster, New Jersey. The Federal Aviation Administration had established temporary flight restrictions to secure the area while Donald Trump attended the LIV Golf New York tournament at his golf club.

NORAD safely escorted both aircraft out of the restricted zone. A third aircraft triggered an alert but became compliant before military intervention was required. The security breach delayed the president's return flight to Washington, D.C., by approximately 13 minutes.

NORAD identified the operation as part of Operation Noble Eagle, its ongoing mission to deter and defeat threats to North American airspace. The Federal Aviation Administration is now determining if the pilots committed errors, as aviation regulations require pilots to check Notices to Airmen before every flight. This incident follows a similar breach on July 19, when more than ten aircraft entered restricted zones over Bedminster and East Rutherford.
