Trump Orders Nationwide Voter Fraud Crackdown Across Nine States

President Donald Trump ordered a nationwide voter fraud crackdown and attempted to restrict mail-in voting, facing legal challenges and criticism from state officials.

President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Homeland Security to launch a coordinated criminal voter fraud surge initiative targeting nine states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Wisconsin. Starting September 1, Homeland Security Investigations will conduct field interviews and pursue investigative leads through mid-October. Secretary Markwayne Mullin is leading the effort, which includes demanding state voter rolls for audits and threatening to withhold grant funding from states that resist election reforms.

Simultaneously, the administration is attempting to restrict mail-in voting in Virginia by implementing new envelope requirements and redefining voter eligibility. The Department of Justice has threatened legal action against election officials accused of permitting undocumented individuals to vote. Governor Abigail Spanberger characterized these actions as an effort to make voters fearful and eliminate secure voting methods, while League of Women Voters CEO Celina Stewart condemned the threats against election officials as a vilification of community members.

The administration faces significant legal and political resistance. Federal district Judge Indira Talwani issued an order temporarily blocking efforts to regulate mail voting before the midterm elections. Furthermore, 15 Republican-led states have refused to assist the administration in its legal battles against blue states and voting rights groups, with less than half of Republican state attorneys general supporting the mail-voting measures.
